Bringing some Brookes’ Festive Cheer to Newmarket’s Christmas Light Switch On!
Dozens of Brookes pupils and teachers braved the recent cold weather, to play a very important part in Newmarket’s Christmas Lights’ Switch On.
The horse-racing town, ten miles from Brookes and Cherry Trees, held its annual light switch on Friday 19th November, and Brookes were represented by our Lower School choir.
Students from Years 3-6 were led by Ms Holdaway and Mrs Gale in singing popular Christmas songs to the crowd. Many Brookes’ families, our boarding students and some senior children came along to support and sing along, standing in front of a specially constructed stage by the Clock Tower on a closed-off Newmarket High Street.
Music teacher, Corinna Holdaway (pictured), who organised the children’s performance for the event, was pleased to hear the festive voices singing both on and off stage.
“I am passionate about facilitating opportunities for students to perform. It’s so great to see the kids enjoying themselves so much. It is a great confidence boost to be up on stage supporting local community events.”
Head of School, Mrs Taylor was in the audience: “It was such a proud moment to see all our students giving it their all on stage.”
“Thanks to all the children for their practicing and giving up their spare time to come and spread some Christmas cheer.”
Hosted by Love Newmarket, and live broadcast on its Facebook page, the event helped support Newmarket town centre and the businesses in it.
