Learning Through Fabric: A Creative Trip to Cosy Cabin

Our Year 5 students had a wonderful learning experience this week during their visit to The Cosy Cabin, Risby Barns, where they chose fabrics for the aprons they are designing and making in their DT lessons.
This trip beautifully tied into multiple areas of their learning:
Art & Design – exploring colour, texture, and pattern while selecting materials to suit their apron designs.
Design Technology – applying the design cycle by planning, selecting, and preparing to construct their final product.
English & Communication – engaging confidently with the shop owner, asking thoughtful questions about materials and suitability.
PSHE & IB Learner Profile – building independence, showing curiosity, and developing respectful relationships within the wider community.
The students made a fantastic connection with the shop owner, who shared her passion for fabrics and sewing. We’re excited to return once the aprons are completed so the children can proudly show her the final results of their work—closing the loop on this meaningful, real-world learning experience.
Thank you to Cosy Cabin for such a warm welcome and for supporting our students’ IB-style learning journey through creativity, connection, and community!
